I Don’t Always Use Bread

Walk into most tackle shops today and you could be forgiven for thinking you have walked into a sweetshop. Minus the dolly mixtures, jelly babies and liquorish allsorts. I suppose the question I am asked most often is. What baits do I use? When its not bread in various forms, I use Jungle paste and sticks from Pallatrax and the various baits from Cotswold baits range, who have a range of pop ups ,dips and hard hooker baits to compliment their core range of boilies.

The Future Bait range includes traditional flavoured high quality boilies in 15mm I also like the new dumbbell shaped baits, then there are pop ups, dips and pellets. In addition they produce an excellent range of Cotswold bottled liquid flavours including salmon and corn oil, the blood worm is certainly a good additive in the ground bait. If tench are your quarry then make sure you have some molasses in your method mix. This season I have spent a lot of time fishing for tench where I feel the fish have been attracted into my swim by the use of molasses, a thick sweet black treacle like substance. It certainly attracts the tench into the baited area.

Why not pickle your Stonze weights in some of these various oils and flavours, it will give you a distinct advantage and hopefully put a few more fish in your landing net. I often dip my bread in these flavours when fishing for chub and barbel. A classic example of how good this can be was when Chris Leibbrandt fished as my guest. He wanted to catch a barbel. Within minutes of his crust baited hook dipped in a Cotswold flavour being cast out, the rod whacked round. It was missed. Five minutes later Chris had his first decent barbel. During the day he had several more fish, the other seven anglers had one barbel between them. Other liquids are sweet corn, chopped mussel, tiger nut oil, krill, monster Crab and other popular and proven fish attractors. Their extensive pellet range includes marine halibuts from 3mm to 22mm, carp pellets and their own mixed buckets that are a valuable addition to any fishing trip.

A great addition are the PVA Friendly range of particles which are available in 1.2L buckets and include Chilli Kick Hemp, Maize, Hemp, Tigers and mixed particles. Our unique process ensures that not only are the products properly prepared but are also shelf life, most importantly they extend the life of PVA bags which allows them to be presented with your hook bait effectively. With these particles it’s easy to make up a PVA sausage which can be put on the hook link ensuring you have a supply of freebies around the hook. You can use these PVA sausages when fishing rivers or still waters.

Why not visit the Cotswold website there you will find a wide range of products carefully designed and created to meet the needs of the modern carp angler. Their products range from high quality, nutritionally valuable boilies that work instantly where introduced and continue to do so year after year, I am told the flavoured pellets are a real winner on commercial fisheries throughout the country. Don’t miss the Technipop range of pop ups which come in 5 great flavours with 5 different colours per flavour, these baits are proven fish catchers. Which you can read about in my feature Day Glow Boilies and Bite Alarms - What ever next?

Phil Chun is a man who does know how to catch big fish, and he is generally credited in making sure the baits and flavours are the best available. I have known Phil for many years and watched him catch many big fish and not just carp, which I have had the privileged to photograph. Tests have shown that changing the colour of the bait but keeping the same flavour has proved to be very effective. Future Baits Fireflies are another addition to their range; these popup boilies really do glow in the dark and have gained a great reputation for producing fish with instant results.

.All of the products are produced to be fish friendly, containing natural ingredients that do not contain harmful preservatives and will not adversely affect water quality. The baits have been extensively tried and tested on their own carp waters as well as numerous other venues around the country, they believe that choosing their products will give we anglers that extra edge in catching more fish whilst giving you the confidence that every care has been taken to ensure that only the very best quality natural ingredients are present.
