Five Barbel in Two Short Sessions

Despite the cold weather Will Carter of Burghfield Common Berkshire chose to fish two short sessions on the Wasing Fishery on the River Kennet taking 5 barbel the best at 8-6-0. Will’s first session of 2008 started at 3-45 am on New Years Day while most people were still celebrating or sleeping. Fishing sausage meat paste he caught his first barbel at 4-35am the second at 4-50am finally taking his last barbel at 5-15am. At 6-30am with no more bites Will called it a day and headed off home for an early breakfast.

January 2nd Will grabbed a short session in between work lasting about one and a half hours. Getting out into the cold from the warmth of the car he wandered if he was doing right as an icy blast of wind hit him, he shuddered for a second; within minutes he was walking downstream to fish the ‘Big Oak’ swim. Fishing with legered crust in the faster water Will was soon in action landing a super barbel weighing 8-2-0 I reckon any barbel over 8lbs is a good fish and this one was well deserved. Thirty minutes without a bite Will moved upstream to the ‘Fallen Tree’ swim where he was quickly into action with a 7lb plus barbel which picked up a chunk of sausage meat paste. Minutes later he was off to work. Those fish were well deserved even more so in a very easterly wind.
