Brace of Double Figure Barbel from River Kennet

Will Carter of Tadley Berkshire a radio communications engineer stopped off at Aldermaston for a short morning session on the Wasing syndicate, the river had fined down a tad, and the flow wasn't quite so strong as it has been. After a quick walk along the stretch he chose to fish a tree lined straight where he had caught some good fish last season.

With just two hours to spare, Will baited two rods, one with a single 14mm Halibut Pellet on a hair, with no freebies, and the other with a feeder which he filled with 2mm Pellets with two 7.5mm Pellets on a hair. The single 14mm was fished across the far bank, while the feeder set-up was downstream in mid river.
The first action came after about half an hour when the single pellet rod lunged viciously twice and the accompanied lift met with solid resistance. After a three or four minute fight in the flow he banked his first double of the season, a beautiful fish of 10lb 4oz. After a quick photo and resting the fish in the net, it swam off strongly.

Recasting both rods Will only waited half an hour before the feeder rod was almost ripped from my rest by a violent pull which resulted in him being connected to something that obviously thought it was a Marlin in a previous life. Line was being stripped from his spool at an alarming rate. Nothing else for it but to chase it downstream, grabbing his net Will started off running down the bank gaining line on the way until 70yds from the point of contact he was finally able to play the fish from one position. As Will said "I have never had a fish take so much line". After another few minutes battle he finally began to gain control and it wasn't long before he netted what looked like another double. As soon as he released pressure on the line, the fish decided to make another attempt at freedom and nearly leapt clean out of the net. A truly amazing fish and a fight he want forget in a hurry. After resting the fish for a good fifteen minutes, it was then weighed in at 10lb 9oz. A great half hours action. What can only be described as a dream session.See pictures
