Rain Forecast For Next Few Days

What a delightful dawn it was today June 12th, flashes of lightning flashed across the leaden grey sky; in the distance I could hear the rumble of thunder. The rain hammered down it rained that hard I had one water butt filled very quickly. The soil looks lovely now it's had a good soaking. Long may this liquid keep falling from the sky? Hopefully it will keep coming down for several days. No way can our streams and river survive without reasonable rainfall. 2 day a week of rain would be wonderful. Lots of sea trout moving up river. I've spent all day on the Ribble checking mink traps, where I had three. Once trapped I shoot them. By putting down more traps I have seen an increase in the number of ducklings that are surviving. Remember these vicious killer which were introduced to Britain in the early 1920’s, since the early 1930’s they have escaped and spread through the country. The only known enemy is the otter. I the 1980’s they were released from mink farms by misguided people causing massive damage to wildlife and creating havoc. Killing ground nesting and song birds, virtually wiping out the water vole. Remember these are not nice sweet doe eyed creatures. They are killers, in fact after the cat, they art the biggest killer in the countryside. I would like to see a campaign waged by the Government to wipe out the mink as we did the Copu rat introduced in Britain in 1929 and officially wiped out in 1988 after roughly a ten year campaign.
