Wye & Usk Foundation news update 12th April 2006

Calling all salmon anglers! News in this morning indicates a decent push of spring salmon in to the Wye on the back of the recent high water. As levels finally dropped to a fishing height, reports came in of at least 25 sea-liced fish ranging from 10 to 24lbs caught over the past few days from the Hereford area.

The river rose a foot again last night, which should help this run continue upstream and bring more fish in from the estuary. Given no further significant rain, the Wye should be in good condition for the weekend and into next week. We still have availability on many of our Wye beats so anyone with a free day or two over the Easter period should call us - 01982 551 520. The weather is forecast to be warmer so even fair-weather anglers have no excuses. Don’t miss out!

We also have another week to let on the famous upper Wye beat of Glanwye. The deal includes 4 daily rods from Friday 14th July (6.30pm start) to Friday 21st and the use of the 3 bedroom lodge by the waters edge. The total cost for the week is a very reasonable £750 (or £400 for just the weekend), which basically works out to be slightly over £26 per person per day for fishing and accommodation. Anyone planning a fishing break with a few friends or family is urged to make use of this fantastic offer. The other weeks available are 18th to 25th August and 22nd to 29th September (prices do vary, please enquire). 2 exceptionally good value season rods are still available on the lower Usk. Finally, those yet to obtain a new EA rod licence can simply contact us and order one over phone. 01982 551 520.
