Huge Pike From Ravensthorpe Reservoir

Ravensthorpe has re-opened with a remarkable rod average of 5.8, despite freezing temperatures the reservoir fished well over opening weekend. The best fish was an 11lb 5oz rainbow taken by Tim Wadwell of Northampton. Tim used a black and green lure. Some big bags and a number of fish over 8lb were recorded.

Graham Smith of Ravensthorpe enjoyed a terrific weekend. Taking 20 odd fish to the boat, fishing catch and release. On Sunday he shared a boat with Bob Church of Northampton. Graham knew where to find the fish from experience gained over the weekend and he finished the day with 11 fish and Bob took 6. Bob’s fifth fish weighed 8-4-0 and put up a terrific fight. “I was over the moon, and would have been happy to finish the day with that one – but there was more to come …..” Bob couldn’t believe it when he got a pull from the bottom hooking a big female pike. Quite an audience gathered to watch from the Causeway in Coton End. Whilst Bob weighed the fish at – an amazing 30lb 8oz - Graham photographed the fish before returning it safely to the water. “I learnt to fish at Ravensthorpe and didn’t go on Sunday expecting to catch a pike, but what a weekend!” commented Bob.
