The Prospects Look Good For The Week Ahead

Today January 1st The river Ribble looked in excellent condition with a 3 foot reading on the gauge at Grindleton, and a water temperature of 41 degrees F. The River Calder had a water temperature of 42 degrees F. Paul Mates fishing at Whalley this morning was catching chub on float fished caster fished on a size 16 hook. Bread, worms and cheese will also be good baits. The Church Deeps Preston, is one venue worth a visit, good chance of 20lb pike and carp.

River Aire fishing controlled by Keighley AC, Bradford City A A and Bradford No 1 A A Tickets available from K L Tackle Keighley. downstream of the Keighley Golf course where the river is improving all the time, chance of big pike also chub and bream I haven't seen any decent roach over the past year. Silsden up and downstream well worth a visit for chub.

I have been told the River Kennet fishing prospects also look good for the coming week with rising water temperatures, you should have a good chance of barbel, also chub and perch. Another good perch venue is the Kennet and Avon Canal. A bait I have found very successful on both the Kennet and Ribble is spicy sausage meat available from Roy Porter butcher Chatburn Tel 01200-441392 Roy will makes up a smoother mix. I find the normal sausage meat is too coarse
