Carp On A Fly Rod

Solicitor Stephen Collins of Hungerford fishing the Wasing Fisheries Shalford lake had the surprise of his life when a common carp estimated to weight around 10lbs intercepted his size 16 black buzzer (chironomid) on a 6 X tippet. Stephen was fishing with a Thomas and Thomas 4 weight fly rod and floating line, when he spotted the carp cruising some forty feet out from the bank. Making the perfect cast he dropped the buzzer several inches ahead of the carp. As the buzzer slowly dropped through the water the carp sucked in what it probably thought was a real midge pupa.Using all his skills gained from a lifetime of angling Stephen was able to beat the fish on the lightest of tackle. Well done Stephen on a superb piece of angling skill. See picture
