Huge River Ribble Chub

Just before Christmas Fireman John Houghton of Ormskirk had a days fishing with me on the River Ribble. I showed and explained to John my usual tackle set up which I often use when in search of chub. During the day we discussed water craft, where chub can often be found, how to find and fish a crease or seam. How to fish bread crust and flake, in fact I tried to tell him as much as possible in the limited time. John also caught a personal best chub on legered crust.

The teach-in certainly paid off, after Christmas John and his mate Ian Fearn also of Ormskirk a medical engineer fished one of the Prince Albert Angling Society waters on the River Ribble. Conditions were poor, prospects of catching looked grim. John and Neil fished just as I had shown John during his guiding day. Bread crust was the bait on a size 4 hook tied direct to 6lb line. They fished a crease just as I had instructed John on his previous trip.

After several hours Neil had a good pull on legered crust, connecting with a good fish. After a few minutes John netted a huge chub of 6-4-0 What a way to start the New Year. Well done John and Neil certainly a team effort and well deserved. See Picture of Neil with his prize fish.
